  • - Corner wedges
  • - Staple gun
  • - Clamp
  • - Glassless and backless frame
  • - Offset clips (if not included with frame)

Instructions

Step 1

Check the size of your oil painting and purchase four appropriately sized stretcher bars from an art supply store and lay them out on a flat surface so you can join them together. Be certain that they form nice right angles for accurate shaping. Staple the corners together with your staple gun.

Step 2

Place your oil painting canvas face down on a clean, flat surface. Put your stretcher bars on top of the painting and fold the perimeter of the canvas over the stretcher bars.

Step 3

Staple the painting to the back of the stretcher. Start this in the center of a bar on any side and word outwards. Use a few staples every couple of inches. Repeat on each side while pulling the painting tight with a clamp to ensure a nice tight fit. Fold corners to neatly staple.

Step 4

Insert the corner wedges once you are done stapling. Corner wedges typically come packaged with the stretcher bars and go in each corner.

Step 5

Look for a backless and glasses frame the size of your stretched oil painted at a local hobby store. You will take the stretched painting and slide it into a frame with no back and no glass.

Step 6

Attach offset clips on each side of the frame to hold the stretched oil painting in place. These typically come with the frame.
